Turn Spare Disk Space into Income

Most cryptocurrency mining today requires expensive ASICs or high-end GPUs that consume massive amounts of electricity. ANNE Miner takes a different approach. It is a low‑energy hard drive mining client that reads pre‑computed plots on your disk and submits solutions to the network. If you have spare storage space, you can mine annecoin.

Unlike Proof of Work, where mining power is proportional to hashrate and electricity consumption, Proof of Space Time mining probability is proportional to committed disk space. Before you can start mining, you need to run ANNE Hasher – a pre‑mining tool that plots your drives by filling them with pre‑computed cryptographic solutions called nonces. This initial plotting is computationally intensive and only needs to be done once. Once your space is plotted, hard drive mining with ANNE Miner consumes minimal energy. Your computer quietly reads data from disk, computes temporal solutions, and sends them to the network.

What ANNE Miner Does

  • Reads your plots – After you run ANNE Hasher to generate plots, ANNE Miner scans them for each new block, reading the required scoop from every nonce.
  • Computes deadlines – It hashes the scoop with the current generation signature to produce a deadline, the number of seconds you must wait before forging a block.
  • Submits intents – When a valid deadline is found, ANNE Miner broadcasts an intent to the network. If your deadline is the lowest received during the 30‑second grace period, you forge the next block.
  • Supports solo and share mining – You can mine alone with larger plots or join the share tier where even a few hundred gigabytes can earn regular rewards.
  • Runs continuously – Once started, ANNE Miner keeps working in the background, responding to each new block challenge automatically.

Why Hard Drive Mining?

  • Low energy costs – Unlike GPU or ASIC mining, hard drive mining uses a fraction of the electricity. The impact on your power bill is negligible.
  • Uses existing hardware – You do not need specialized equipment. Any computer with spare hard drive space can participate.
  • Quiet operation – No loud fans, no overheating. Your miner can run on a Raspberry Pi, an old laptop, or a home server tucked in a closet.
  • Fair distribution – The two‑tier system prevents large miners from dominating. Solo miners get exclusive blocks every five blocks, and share miners receive seven rewards per block even when they do not win the solo portion.
  • No ASIC arms race – Because mining is storage‑based, there is no advantage to custom hardware. Consumer drives compete evenly.

How to Start Mining with ANNE Miner

Getting started with hard drive mining on ANNE requires three components: ANNE Hasher to create your plots, ANNE Node to maintain connection to the network, and ANNE Miner to read your plots and submit deadlines. The process is straightforward:

  1. Install ANNE Node, ANNE Hasher and ANNE Miner – The easiest way is to run the ANNE Wizard, which installs all components and configures everything automatically. If you prefer manual installation, downloads for each application are available for Linux, macOS, and Windows.
  2. Plot your drives – Run ANNE Hasher to generate plots on the drives you want to dedicate to mining. Plotting fills your drives with pre‑computed cryptographic hashes. This is a one‑time process that can take hours or days depending on the amount of space you allocate. You can plot multiple drives and add more later.
  3. Configure ANNE Miner – The miner needs to know where your plots are located and which mining tier you want to use (solo or share). If you used the ANNE Wizard, this is already done. For manual setup, you edit a simple configuration file pointing to your plot directories.
  4. Start mining – Launch ANNE Miner. It will begin scanning your plots, computing deadlines for each new block, and submitting intents when it finds a solution. You can watch your progress in the logs.
  5. Earn annecoin – When you forge a block (solo) or when your submitted intent is selected as one of the seven share winners, annecoin is deposited directly into your wallet. No pool operator, no middleman.

Solo vs. Share Mining

ANNE’s two‑tier mining structure gives you a choice:

  • Solo mining – You compete directly against other solo miners to forge the next block. If you win, you receive 51% of the block reward. Your chances are proportional to your total plot size. Solo‑only blocks occur every five blocks, where the entire reward goes to the solo winner with no share miners.
  • Share mining – You compete in a separate L1 pool where seven winners each receive an equal share of the remaining 49% of the block reward. Even if you do not forge the block, you can still win a share if your deadline is among the seven lowest non‑winning submissions. This makes share mining attractive for those with smaller plots.

You can switch between modes at any time by changing your miner configuration.

Understanding Deadlines and Intents

When ANNE Miner reads a scoop from your plot, it produces a hit value. That hit is divided by the network’s base target to get a preliminary deadline. Different formulas are applied for solo and share mining to keep the network fair.

For solo mining, the deadline is transformed using a logarithmic formula that caps maximum values and adds a handicap if you have won five of the last ten blocks. For share mining, a different transformation with a minimum floor ensures that share miners see consistent results.

When a valid deadline is found, ANNE Miner broadcasts an intent containing your account identifier, the nonce, the deadline, and your mining tier. Other nodes begin a 30‑second grace period upon seeing any valid intent. At the end of the window, the lowest deadline wins. If your intent is the winner, you forge the block and receive the reward.

What You See After Starting

Once ANNE Miner is running, you can monitor its activity in two ways:

  • Miner logs – The miner writes detailed logs showing each deadline computed, whether it was submitted, and any errors encountered. This is useful for troubleshooting and optimization.
  • ANNE Node wallets – Your ANNE Node native wallet or the web wallet at http://localhost:9116/ANNE.html shows incoming annecoin from mining rewards as they arrive.

You do not need to watch constantly. ANNE Miner runs in the background, and rewards accumulate automatically. Check back periodically to see your balance grow.

If you want to optimize, you can experiment with different plot sizes, mining tiers, and even run ANNE Miner on multiple machines using the different account. More allocated plots increases your chances proportionally.

Fair Mining for Everyone

ANNE’s hard drive mining design includes several mechanisms to prevent large miners from dominating:

  • Handicap rule – If a miner wins five of the last ten blocks, a 240‑second penalty is added to their deadlines, making it harder to win repeatedly.
  • Solo‑only blocks – Every fifth block is reserved exclusively for solo miners. Share miners cannot participate, giving individual miners a regular chance at full rewards.
  • Share tier – Even when a large miner wins the solo portion, seven smaller miners still receive shares from the same block. Rewards are distributed across 7 participants.

This creates a system where larger storage holders maintain an advantage without excluding smaller participants. Whether you have a single drive or a rack of storage, you can participate and earn.
